A Letter for an Aching Heart

To the women struggling with an aching heart:

You may feel like you’re the only one struggling with this, I promise you, you’re not, because I struggle with it daily.

You may be wondering if you’re good enough, pretty enough, funny enough, quiet enough, loud enough, silly enough, gentle enough, soft enough, if you’re enough.

You may feel unloved, unlovable, and/or unworthy of love.

You may feel consumed by your loneliness, and by darkness.

You may feel like crying but just can’t.

You may feel like you’re in limbo, that you’re watching all your friends around you move forward with their lives and you’re still in the same spot, you’re still struggling.

You may feel that no one cares about you.

You may feel that you do not matter.

You may wonder if people would notice if you disappeared

Maybe you’re afraid…or anxious…or depressed.

I know these feelings are REAL. I have felt these feelings. If you are feeling any or all of these ways, you are not alone and you are not the only one to struggle with this. What you feel is real, but what these things say — they are lies. Despite how we feel, truth prevails.

You are a masterpiece.

You are made in the image and likeness of God.

You teach the world something about God that nobody else can!

You are worthy of love because you are a daughter of the most High King.

You are wanted.

Your life is moving forward, despite how it may feel. Each day gets you one day closer to that goal. Persevere.

I may not know you, but I care for you. You matter to me. And more so, you matter to your Creator and He knows you, intimately. He knows the desires of your heart, He knows the number of hairs on your head, he knit you in your mother’s womb. His heart is soft for you.

You would be missed if you disappeared. Someone would notice. It may not be who you think, but someone would notice.

Afraid, anxious, and depressed — that’s okay. You’re not alone. You’re allowed to feel these things, but don’t dwell in them. And if you are and you can’t get out seek help. And know that the Lord wants to deliver you from these things and it won’t be on our own.

Lovely, if you’re feeling this way tonight, don’t give up. Run into the loving arms of our Savior, He has comfort to offer you. You are adored.
